Happy Valentine’s Day Reader! I hope your day is filled with candy, something sweet, and a little extra love wherever you are. Valentine’s Day always feels like a good excuse to bake something special and enjoy the people you share it with. 💕 While many people will be out celebrating tonight, we will be spending the day at an archery competition. No complaints here! We truly enjoy watching the boys compete, and honestly, the long car rides together have become some of my favorite kind of time. Life feels slower in those moments, and I have learned to appreciate them more every year. Since we will not be home for a big dinner, I have been making a few simple treats ahead of time to make the day feel a little extra special. Sourdough Discard Double Chocolate Chip Quick Bread has been one of those recipes that disappears almost as quickly as it cools. It is rich and chocolatey without being overly sweet, with a soft, tender crumb that makes it perfect for slicing thick and enjoying with coffee or packing along for the road. I also made a batch of my Old-Fashioned Hot Fudge Sauce, made without corn syrup and using only real chocolate and simple ingredients. It is smooth, deep in flavor, and just the right amount of indulgent. I especially love it warmed slightly and served alongside fresh strawberries for dipping. It feels simple, nostalgic, and just right for Valentine’s Day. And if you saw my Traditional Homemade Puff Pastry Recipe a couple of weeks ago, you will love this new version. The Sourdough Puff Pastry Recipe uses sourdough discard instead, and it is wonderfully flaky with layer after layer of buttery goodness. It is surprisingly simple to make, and the discard adds just a little extra flavor while still giving you those beautiful, crisp flakes. Check out what I created with them on Instagram or Facebook! However you are spending today, I hope it includes something warm from the kitchen and time with the people you love most. If you try any of these recipes, I would love to see them. Tag me on Instagram so I can share your creations! With love, I'd love to have you follow along here: |
