Winter On Idie's Farm

Hi Friends!

I hope your new year is off to a great start! I pray this note finds you warm and safe. As for us, we have weathered the storm and are now gearing up for the next! The moisture this year has been relentless to say the least. As many of you know, on a farm it can be a slushy, icy disaster! Last Saturday morning, a couple of hours before the big snow storm hit the Northeast, it felt like our systems were falling apart. First thing in the morning, before milking the cow, I headed to feed the chickens and as I went to open the coop door with a bit of force, because it was frozen shut, it completely ripped off from the hinges! There I stood, holding the door in my right hand, in complete dismay. It gets better. After I leaned the door up on the side of the coop, I headed over to meet Theron at the barn. Complaining to him about the door, I lured Sassy into her milking stanchion, fed her her grain, and then cleaned and prepped her udder. I then went to flip on the milker, and…nothing. It didn’t turn on. At this point I imagined throwing myself on the ground, in a tantrum, kicking and screaming, “Why couldn’t I have chosen a normal life?!” I was ready to throw in the towel, but Theron, the polar opposite and completely composed man that he is, tries to console me and troubleshoot the pump at the same time! Thankfully, he fixed the machine...and me, and we were able to go on without any more hiccups. The next morning we woke up to this..

I then realized what it is all for. And I’m grateful we chose it. This season is tough, and we knew that getting into this, but in a moment, it will all change. No matter how unbearable the weather is, these animals depend on us and look forward to seeing us every single day. And that gives me joy

I hope that you will take a moment and read my most recent post on the 13 Health Benefits of Raw Dairy Milk Consumption. You may not be interested in drinking raw milk (although you may be curious after learning about its many benefits) but you might find the story of why it has been labeled a villian and is still illegal in some states today, a very interesting read! I sure did!

I also took some time and updated my about me page with some fun facts. Hope you enjoy it!

Have a very wonderful weekend my friends!

Talk Soon!
